I would suggest pursuing a degree. Not only would it make it easier finding a job, but it will pay more if you have a degree.

    Thats basically what I’m doing.

My local 2yr city college is great…. they have a certificate (33hrs) and I finished that in 2007…. now I”m taking the rest of the courses for the associates degree (60hrs total). **Most** of my classes are avaliable online through my local community college & thats helpful since I have 2 very young kids.
Lots of HR related classes are easily taught on the web… but since my only experience w/ web courses is the 7 I have taken through my LOCAL college I don’t know how the others are.
Financial aid (fafsa.gov) can be harder to get for internet only schools though.
Just talk with your local college counselors and they can help find the right courses for you.. and you can see how many are taught online too.

The certificate is basically the dressed down degree… no english and history…. lower salary.

The associates degree makes you take all the art/history/english courses too and will earn you a higher salary when you start work for whatever reason.

Not to mention if you go on a fake job hunt you will see that most HR job listings require you to have a 2yr associates degree at the BARE minimum… lots want bachelors.

Just go for it. HR is a great, high paying feild of work and it CAN be lots of fun with the right company.

Depending on the career track you’re looking to join, generally speaking, the more advanced the degree, the higher the salary.

I’ve added a link to an article de-mystifying common erroneous judgments about online education. Yes it is the same as a on-campus program, yes you can do just as well, if not better. It provides you with a flexible schedule, and you’ll save money, especially with gas prices these days.

Also, the other link is to a site where they offer human resource degrees from multiple schools. It’s best to compare and contrast each school and calculate costs, how that fits your budget, the areas you’d like to specialize in, etc.
