If my father was defended by a court appointed attorney and he was over income what will happen?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010
Tickey asked:

For example, my father has a “free” attorney to work with and he makes about $60,000 a year with supposed responsibility of 5 people including himself. This should mean if he wants to throw around accusations about my mom it should be on his own dollar

Where as my mom gets paid 9.00 hr part time and gets one.

Could the court order be thrown out for like false repersation or something

Can an employer charge a prospective employee for his/her background check?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Laura asked:

I am considering a job with Huntington Learning Center.
As a condition of my employment, I have to submit to a criminal background check. I’m not opposed to that at all.

However, the HR person told me that I would have to pay for it, to which I replied “That’s a business cost of Huntington Learning Center – It is not my responsibility”.

What’s the law on this? Any thoughts?
Just to clarify…
The cost of the background check is deducted from my first paycheck.

I gave my reply in a respectful manner.

Some very good responses, thanks!
Keep them coming.

Spoke to him. he said would don’t it again. Problem solved, until the next day when he said I could resign or be terminated. Sh

What do you do when your HR Director is notorious for his sexually harassing behavior?

Heather asked:

The Director of HR/Asst. Vice-president of my company is historically known for his inappropriate comments and actions and the president and principals laugh it off. Do I do something it about it or hightail it out of there? The odds don’t seem to be in my favor but I am not the type to roll over and put up with it.

Exactly what is the role of human resources in business?

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Frankie asked:

I am an employee of a small family run company of about 40 people who like most all of the other employee feel like we are left out of the role of helping the business function, so to speak! It seems like this company does not like to give responsibilites to employees but keeps these roles among family members. My concern is we have grown so big that our human resource department “I am not even sure who that is” is not functioning for its employees. So what is the role of HR when an employee feels stressed, confused, and unsure of his/her job duties, or when an employee feels over worked and his/her co-worker is underworked. Please help to answer these questions so that I can either stop feeling like nobody cares or maybe seek action in correcting the atomosphere of the workplace.
